Across from Newport News, Carrollton, VA is situated at the southern end of the James River Bridge. With a population of just over 6,000, the town is rather small. Recently, it transformed into a commuter town as many inhabitants drive to work at Newport News Shipbuilding. The town has expanded over the past 10 years, which has resulted in the addition of additional local amenities like retail stores, dining establishments, healthcare clinics, financial hubs, and even a hotel. The Carroll family, who in the 19th century controlled the majority of the land the town now occupies, is honored by the name of the city. The Carroll family home in the town, which formerly housed the Carrollton County Store, is still standing.
